On Saturday, we took a day trip up north to see the mountainside and to visit a Ethiopian Orthodox Church at the top of mountain. The only road in ended at the church. It was a beautiful drive and we saw a lot of small villages and beautiful scenery along the way.
But, before we reached the top we had to STOP and eat…RAW MEAT!!!!
Yup, you heard that right…RAW MEAT!!!!
Jud tried it
Dad tried it
And even I tried it!!
A grass hut along the roadside
Beautiful countryside
The Bolkema family
A beautiful gorge that we stopped to see
Gorgeous stained glass windows
Hand painted murals
The church at the end of the road
A graveyard
The famous pose in front of the gorge (canyon?)
Can you see the clan of baboons in the distance?
On our trip up the mountain, we got to stop and visit an orphanage. This is where they made the injera (traditional Ethiopian bread) to feed over 100 plus orphans, special needs children and elderly people.

Elle and I with some of the girls
Driving up the mountain was our first time out of the city of Addis. Ethiopia is a beautiful country filled with a rich culture and very special people. Although beautiful and rich, there is poverty everywhere. My heart breaks for the needy and the orphans of Ethiopia. I pray that God continues to break my heart for the people of this country and provide life long ways for our family to love and serve them!
